What is a disposable towel?
What is a disposable towel?
Picture this: a towel you can use once, and then bid farewell without a second thought. It's all about convenience and saving water while embracing sustainability. 100% Natural. 100% Biodegradable.
What is a disposable towel we hear you ask?
A disposable towel is a single-use alternative to a cotton towel. They are 100% biodegradable and completely eco-friendly.
Biodegradable towels are designed to break down naturally and safely in the environment after disposal and are a single-use alternative to a cotton towels. Unlike traditional towels made from synthetic fibres or blended materials, Scrummi biodegradable towels are crafted from 100% natural, wood fibres. This ensures they decompose naturally, leaving no harmful residues or microplastics behind!
Scrummi's are highly absorbent, environmentally friendly, and can help save money.
Scrummi towels are up to 10x more absorbent than traditional cotton hairdressing towels so you only need one from wash to finish!
Scrummi towels contain no hidden plastics and will biodegrade within 8-12 weeks!
At Scrummi, we take pride in offering products that are environmentally friendly. Our range of products are 100% biodegradable or recyclable. Our Scrummi waffle products are designed to biodegrade in just 100 days in an anaerobic environment, which is similar to the biodegradation time of an orange peel.
How we make a Scrummi
Scrummi products are made from sustainably sourced wood from predominantly European sources.
Wood supplies come from forestry operations that are certified according to recognised sustainability criteria, such as the FSC® and PEFC™ standards.
Austria is the biggest wood contributor of fibres for Scrummi production. The yearly volume of wood regrowth in certified Austrian forests is 10 million cubic metres, higher than the wood quantities harvested per year. Scrummi verifies the source of all products back through the fibre manufacturer and wood source to ensure our goods do not contain wood from ancient forests or fibre from polluting factories. Central Europe ensures compliance with this forestry principle.
Cellulose from wood is used to produce fibres
Scrummi binds these together to make their products, applying innovative and sustainable processes for eco-conscious manufacturing.
The Scrummi fibres are then bound together using high-pressured jets of water.
No chemicals, additives, or binders are used in the manufacturing process. The amount of water used in the creation of each individual Scrummi towel is approximately 35ml and 96% per cent of this water is recycled back into the system through a microbiological filtration process.
The energy used
in the entire lifecycle of a Scrummi Towel including its manufacture is 90% less than the energy used by a washing machine to clean a single cotton towel.
At the end of a Scrummi product’s life cycle, it fully biodegrades in about 100 days.
Decomposing back into its original components of CO2 and water and preparing the ground for new growth. Scrummi is independently tested and the results show our products biodegrade faster than a range of papers and cards and are close runners up to food waste in the time they take to fully decompose.
